2019 brought the rise of the mighty Micheal Ward. Starring as the titular role in Netflix’s flagship drama TOP BOY which was released globally in September. The highly-anticipated resurgence of the show followed on from the critically acclaimed original series on Channel 4, and hit the headlines after it was announced that Drake and LeBron James would be executive producer of the series. In April, Drake dropped the first-look trailer at the start of his O2 Arena show to much excitement, introducing fans to Micheal’s character Jamie, a young, hungry and ruthless gang leader that has taken over.
Later that year Micheal played a lead role in BLUE STORY, the highly-anticipated debut feature film from UK grime artist and director Rapman (a.k.a Andrew Onwubolu) whose ground-breaking music and short film trilogies became a viral sensation. Then came 2020 and the first big highlight of Ward’s year where he graciously picked up the ‘Rising star’ award at BAFTA in February.
Previous roles for Micheal have included Brendan in the BBC’s coming of age drama THE A LIST and the documentary film RUDEBOY: THE STORY OF TROJAN RECORDS, about the integration of Jamaican music into British youth culture where he played the part of a younger Roy Ellis.
With even more releases due this year, its safe to say Ward is one to watch as he and his driven ambition charge towards super stardom.
